DON'T DESPISE THE SMALL.
A seed doesn't look like a harvest. Zechariah 4:10 shows why small beginnings deserve your full effort long before the results are visible.

The short of it
- Small is a stage, not a verdict.
- Faithfulness matters before the results become visible.
- Don't wait for something to look impressive before giving it your best.
A seed doesn't look like a harvest. A foundation doesn't look like a finished building. And the first faithful step rarely looks like the future it makes possible.
That's why beginnings are so easy to underestimate. We judge them by what they are today instead of what they're meant to become.
Great Work Has an Unremarkable Beginning
In Zechariah's day, God's people were rebuilding the temple after exile. The work was real, but the new structure could seem painfully modest beside the memory of what had stood before. Through the prophet, God encouraged Zerubbabel, the leader responsible for the rebuilding.
The message wasn't that the project would succeed because the builders were unusually powerful. It was that God's Spirit was at work in what appeared unimpressive (Zechariah 4:6–10).
There was no need to despise the day of small things. The work mattered even before the walls made a statement.
Give the Beginning the Respect It Deserves
We love the finished product: the business with customers, the skill that looks effortless, the life shaped by years of good decisions. But every one of those realities has an earlier version that isn't much to look at.
The first page. The first practice. The first honest conversation. The first day you show up differently.
A small beginning is not permission to be careless. It's an invitation to be faithful with what's actually in your hands.
Don't confuse visibility with value. And don't make applause the condition for your effort.
The point of Zechariah isn't that every personal project is guaranteed to become enormous. It's that work done in obedience to God is not worthless simply because it begins small.
The move
Choose one thing you've been treating as too small to matter. Give it your full attention for the next seven days. Define one concrete action you can repeat, and start today. Let consistency give the beginning room to grow.
